Bio

Ashley is a stand-up comedian on a journey to be both max funny and max frugal. Ashleyjillian.com is mostly just to prove there are comedians (or humorists, if you also love pretending you live in a 1930s issue of the New Yorker) who think making jokes about brunch is incredibly lame.

She peaked at age 19 when she blogged about politics for The Washington Post, now she just writes short stories (1930s New Yorker) and stand-up comedy. She is also an A+ actress and an A+ arm wrestling opponent if you are looking to feel better about yourself.

Comedy is the biggest and most awkward thing to happen to her since puberty, and she’s not afraid to show it.

    1) I started dancing at the age of 4 and never stopped
    2) As you figured out from the “liked” post, my bf is an aspiring improv comedian
    3) I am a Jew, so I was pretty much raised on bagels (blueberry being my favorite!)

    eh, two of the languages are basically the same. I have no idea why people thank me for “liking” their posts. I think it’s to remind me that we apparently have some Internet connection to each other, which I don’t think is entirely necessary. Well, a little, but not like I should. I usually just look at it from my iPhone and catch a typo and then edit and update. And then I find another and do the same thing. This goes on for a few hours until I end up with a heavy sigh and wishing I just slept on it and did a final edit before posting the darned thing. Editing sounds so noble and doubt I’ll ever really do it. The word-snob side of me rolls my eye at the lazy-ass side of me.

    Hi! Thanks for putting a smile on my face. Here goes: Your blog is very funny and I give you mass amounts of kudos for doing improve. Blogging is my improve as of now since I can’t make it out to da clubs. They open way after my bedtime. It’s better that way so I don’t have to actually hear boo, hiss. I like to dance and so does my husband and daughters. The younger one is a bouncy seat dancer since she is six months old. My husband went to Cal too. I am a bear in the morning. Nor are they all from your mom catching you up on all the furniture store gossip (is furniture store gossip a thing? See what I did there?) where she works.

    Your life, being not the things mentioned above, seems intriguing.

    No idea how you came across my Crazy Bible blog, but I’m glad…because that story about the guy caressing the elevator which moments later spat out a Chinese dignitary propelling you into a real life game of Mario (who actually is Italian…I’m not a nitpicker, stop yelling at me) was fantastic.     I enjoy your sense of humor. I think you have a fun blog here. I paticularly liked your story about getting bad coffee at Starbucks, Rosa Park’s chins, and the spammer who wanted to write posts for your blog. Keep up the good work. I also like that you work at an Improv. I know sometimes that doesn’t pay well, but it is still better then a regular job. You look kinda cute and should put up more pictures of yourself.

    I always wanted to do comedy. I tried writing sitcoms and sketch shows but never had any luck with them. I lacked the talent and the perseverance to see them through. I do write poetry though.     I like your sense of humor. I also like it that you are into ballet and blueberry bagels. I danced and taught ballet until I was 40. I’m 52 going on 53 now. Pirouettes make me dizzy these days. I always loved writing and blogging has helped a lot to fulfill this craving. Keep writing…

    Environmental economics? Very interesting.You may want to check out Gilbert Lafreniere. He is a former Enviromental Scirences professor at Willamette University. He wrote a fantastic book called the Decline of Nature.

    Ashley, I love your alternate universe choice of a New Yorker issue from the 1930s. Still the epic depression era with all its tragedy, but after the repeal of Prohibition which eased the pain with oblivion. A target rich comedy environment if ever there was one. I’m a Bible teacher which is a lot like standup without the alcohol/beverage service. It’s also a target rich environment for comedy.

    Apparently I have had a male puberty, then a trans puberty, then a menopause in mood only, and now I am just balding. Well I would email you about all this stuff and how you could help me, I think I may need some sort of hormonal calm. If I were doing the New Yorker, I guess I would try to pull of some sort of Norman Rockwell drawing. Cheers!
